The Battle of the Giants: Gregzilla versus the Kraken

The Battle of the Giants, GREGZILLA and THE KRAKEN, finally happen on Wednesday as the Barangay Ginebra Kings and San Miguel Beermen collide in the 2014 PBA Governor’s Cup Elimination Rounds.

The most awaited face-off of the Rookie of the Year Candidate, Greg Slaughter and the Most Valuable Player Candidate, Junemar Fajardo will finally happen this time as both players are healthy enough to fight for their own teams.

The longtime rivals were supposed to meet as early as the Philippine Cup but Fajardo missed both meetings with Ginebra after suffering an MCL sprain on his knee in the All-Filipino conference and a sprained ankle in the Commissioner’s Cup.

The lone battle that they had was the All-Star showdown when Slaughter played for the PBA All-Stars Selection while Fajardo played for Gilas Pilipinas. This time there is no exhibition game. What the pinoy basketball fans can see will be the real battle of the young giants in the basketball court.

Slaughter said,

“We made it a rule that we wouldn’t lose two in a row…These last three games are very crucial for us and we are looking to gain ground in the top four.”

The Gin Kings just came off from a lopsided defeat against the Rain or Shine last Sunday, and they want to bounch back right away to stabilize their rank in the standings.

Ginebra Coach Jeffrey Cariaso said,

“Both teams are coming from a loss and are battling for a Top Four slot. I can only expect an intense and hard fought battle…We need to play with a bigger sense of urgency.”

Meanwhile, the Beermen also came off from a surprised loss against the Meralco Bolts. And they don’t like to absorb another defeat so that they can still have a chance to be included in the Top Four.

San Miguel Beermen Coach Biboy Ravanes said,

“Our focus will be majorly on our defense – our transition D, and we can’t allow easy points. If we want to improve our standing, we have to compete for 48 minutes. We cannot afford to let up.”

The game tips will be at 8:00 PM also at the PhilSports Arena.
